Immanuel means "God is with us", and it's a Hebrew name which first appears in the book of Isaiah: "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14
The name Immanuel is a masculine personal name and in Hebrew as I said, it means "God is with us." Think about that a bit. God is with us!
That name Immanuel appears just three time in the Bible. The three verses are found in: Isaiah 7:14;Isaiah 8:8 and Matthews 1:23. It's also alluded to in Isaiah 8:10.
The name Immanuel was symbolic of the fact that God would demonstrate his presence through the deliverance of his people. And it's larger application which was a prophecy of the birth of the incarnate God , Jesus the Messiah.
Before Jesus returned to heaven, he told his followers that the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit would dwell with them: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever." John 14:16
So God is indeed still with Us!
